Practice Duel Save States

I think it would be very helpful to add game savestates that you can use with replays or the practice duel in the deck manager. For labbing combos and different lines it would save years of my life to be able to restart when im already at a certain point in my turn.

Currently there isn’t a way to set flags as to which effects were activated in a duel or not. This would require arduous amounts of effort on both the team and the player to go through and configure whether or not each and every possible card has been activated, negated, summoned, etc, etc.

You can already configure your starting hand and number of cards drawn so that you can create scenarios you wish. You can do this by disabling shuffling in the hosting extra rules, and then placing the cards you wish to have at the top of your deck in the upper left most slots of the deck. Save the deck and then play your game to have those cards drawn.

then what about the ability to undo moves while playing in practice mode? you know, the ability to undo a move or go back 2-3 moves

I still think it’s crazy that across all the simulators there isn’t one that can let you practice a game state

TLDR, host a game with manual mode. It’ll let you place cards where you want when you want. This lets you “return to a game state" whenever you want as you are in full control.

There are three reasons why no sim has the ability to rewind.

1, it is technically complex to be able to reverse a game state as hundreds of flags are made to check the status of the deck, if summons have happened, which cards have and haven’t been activated. In order to maintain this, tons of data would need to be written to the log and then either reverse crawled through or stripped out when the duel is complete so that the replay file is compact. In dueled that can often take hundreds of actions in the span of a few turns this could cause some devices to straight up crash as they run out of memory space.

2, the yugioh core engine at the center of every sim is NOT designed to have this functionality. This would cause our proprietary system, one which already needs maintenance with functionality to be able to cancel summons once initiated for example, which at this current time would put massive strain on our Developer for a feature few would use.

Because,

3, it’s 100% illegal to “take back" a play or “go back". While I understand that this would be for testing purposes, this does not make it any less illegal in the game proper. Because of this, features that would be illegal in normal Yu-Gi-Oh (More than 60 main deck cards, more than 15 main deck cards) are not given thought as there is no circumstance where this would be needed or allowed by players of the game.

That said, if you wish to return to a previous state I would recommend looking into manual mode. Omega is one of the only sims to my knowledge which has Automatic AND manual modes which would allow you to host a manual room and have full control over what happens. You can place cards from wherever, to wherever. This would be akin to practicing with paper and letting you put cards back where they were on the table.
