Change RPS to a coin toss

RPS requires user interaction. Tons of players stall and wait out th 15 second timer. Ties are extremely frustrating since there is no reason to have a tie on a digital sim. It can sometimes take 2 minutes for a match to start due to ties. Master duel uses a coin and paper uses dice which tie less frequently.

Yes it requires user interaction and that is precisely the point. The game originates in Japan where rps is done primarily. Rps is part of the game and is in the rulebook. By providing the user choice, it is not based solely on luck. Each time you tie, gives more information which influences the next choice. Or is not random.

We would like to keep it that way. What other games like master duel and duel links do is irrelevant for us. We aren’t making decisions because others do it. There has to be a good logical reason behind every design change.

I think the vast majority of players already have auto-rps turned on thereby turning it into a coin toss with extra time and steps. Perhaps if both players have auto-rps turned on it could be rigged to avoid a tie and save time?

I will also say that since either player having auto-rps turned on creates a coin flip there are very few actual rps games taking place. If 10% of users have auto-rps turned off (I think it is less than this), then the chance of a non-random rps game is 1%. Essentially I think we already have a coin toss system except with an added wait of 15s-2min before games.

RPS is not “part of the game”. I can’t speak for OCG, but in TCG, you roll dice which removes all player choice and makes the agency to go first purely random. Omega also has 100x more TCG duels than OCG duels. If Omega is meant to simulate real life competitive TCG play, it would be improved by replacing RPS with a purely random system.

Also as mlists mentioned, Omega includes an auto-RTS system. If at least one player has this enabled, then the outcome of the RPS game becomes truly random. If RTS is so important for the game, then shouldn’t the auto-RTS feature be removed? And as long as it is included, why not rig the games where one player has it enabled?

To summarize, the good logical reasons would be

  1. Paper TCG play uses a true randomizer (technically both players agree on any randomization method, but dice rolling is most common and is included in the sanctioned Neuron app)
  2. Eases frustration caused by stallers waiting out the 15 second timer over and over + pointless ties. Starts the match quicker.
  3. Omega already features a functionally true randomizer (auto RPS), so any philosophical objections against coin toss are currently internally contradictory.
