Hello. I would like to ask whether it would be possible to add or support a small set of historical ruling variants for old Yu-Gi-Oh! cards.
I am a player who is very interested in Goat Format, retro formats, and the history of Yu-Gi-Oh! metagames. One of the most fascinating parts of older Yu-Gi-Oh! to me is how certain cards worked under their old rulings, and how those rulings were powerful enough to shape the actual metagame of their time.
This is not a request to replace or modify the current official card implementations. I am asking whether these cards could be supported as optional alternate/custom cards, similar in spirit to pre-errata cards or format-specific variants.
The cards I am interested in are:
-
Last Will [1999 Ruling]
-
Sangan [1999 Ruling]
-
Witch of the Black Forest [1999 Ruling]
-
The Blessing of the Holy Elf [2001 Ruling]
-
Green Baboon, Defender of the Forest [2008 Ruling]
I think these cards are historically important because their old rulings were not minor trivia. They were strong enough to influence real deck construction and leave a lasting mark on Yu-Gi-Oh! history.
For example, in the first generation of Yu-Gi-Oh!, Exodia decks using Last Will, Sangan, and Witch of the Black Forest were a major part of the early metagame. Their old rulings allowed extremely powerful search and Special Summon sequences, making them some of the most memorable cards from that era.
In the second generation, The Blessing of the Holy Elf was important for Fire Princess / cure burn strategies, because its old ruling treated the recovery as multiple 300 LP recoveries rather than a single combined recovery.
Later, during the fifth to sixth generation era, Green Baboon, Defender of the Forest was remembered as a key card in Beast Beatdown and Baboon Rider strategies. Its old ruling, where it could be Summoned when a Beast monster was destroyed by battle, including during the Damage Step, was also reflected in older official video game implementations such as World Championship 2008.
These cards and decks are still remembered by many retro format and gateball players because they represent important moments in the history of Yu-Gi-Oh! metagames. However, as far as I know, these historical ruling versions are not currently implemented as separate playable variants, which is unfortunate for players who want to recreate older environments more accurately.
To be clear, these are not simply modern pre-errata text changes like Dark Strike Fighter or Ring of Destruction. They are historical ruling/gameplay variants that actually mattered in older Yu-Gi-Oh! history.
Would it be possible to add these as optional alternate cards, or at least support them as a separate custom card package compatible with the simulator?
If needed, I would be happy to provide test cases, card scripts, documentation, and sources for the intended historical rulings.
Thank you for your time.
