"Naturia Eggplant" effect not working!

“Naturia Eggplant” effect not activating when sent from the field to the GY while there is another “Naturia” monster in the GY.

That’s not a bug, that’s you not understanding how “when” effects work and general concept of effect timing. Can’t proc eggplant if used as material for a summon. It being sent to the GY needs to be the last action in a chain to resolve in order to activate it’s effect.

Except it IS a bug, because the condition of its effect doesn’t specify the reason for why it was sent from the field to the GY, meaning that all cases are valid (Tribute, Battle Destruction or Effect Destruction). The condition of the effect literally states:

When this card is sent from the field to the Graveyard, you can select 1 “Naturia” monster in your Graveyard, except “Naturia Eggplant”, and add it to your hand.

1 Do you have a replay? 2 An example at Yugipedia would like to have a word with you.

If this card is sent to the Graveyard to pay a cost, used as a Tribute (either as a cost or for a Tribute Summon), or as a Synchro Material Monster, you cannot activate its effect.

Well how is this supposed to be understood just by its vague effect description?

If it was something along the lines of:
When this card is sent from the field to the Graveyard as a result of Battle or Card Effect, you can select 1 “Naturia” monster in your Graveyard, except “Naturia Eggplant”, and add it to your hand.

Also, Eggplant’s text is from before Problem-Solving Card Text got introduced. Did anything happen in between Eggplant going to the GraveYard and the opportunity to activate that effect?

When effects never activate when they are sent to the graveyard as material or tributes. The reason is, in order for a when effect to trigger, it must be the last “event” in the game to happen.

When you use a monster for a tribute summon or set, you tribute your monsters, THEN you perform the summon or set of a monster. The last event is not the monster being sent to the graveyard, but a monster being summoned/set. This is the same for any extra deck summoning that isn’t apart of a card effect. This is how you can activate Trap Hole. It is also a when effect yet activates when you perform a tribute or normal summon that isn’t apart of a chain.

This is how the game has always been played.

As further proof, you can see the guide that outlines this exactly in the Summonings and Timing paragraph listed here: YGOrganization | Demystifying Rulings, Part 6: Summons
